Hospital Clinicians – South Tyneside

Bridge Referrals, an independent referral centre in the North East of England, seeks two dedicated hospital clinicians to join its friendly team. The role would suit motivated and enthusiastic veterinary surgeons who wish to further their career and personal development in a busy referral centre.

Bridge Referrals is a multidisciplinary independent referral centre located in the North East of England, offering soft tissue, orthopaedics, internal medicine, neurology, cardiology and oncology services. Their in-house facilities include CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, arthroscopy, laparoscopy, fluoroscopy, separate medical and surgical kennels, lab, operating microscope, veterinary ventilators and diagnostic and surgical equipment.

This role is best suited to someone with at least two years' experience in primary care practice. Applicants should possess excellent teamwork abilities and thrive in a fast-paced hospital environment.

This role has three core aspects:

1. Practical clinical duties:

These make up the majority of the position and you will be actively involved across all referral services, with support from the senior clinicians. Duties will include performing emergency triage and stabilisation, diagnostic imaging workups (CT), anaesthetic inductions, scrubbing to assist with surgical procedures and supervising inpatient care and plans. The role of the hospital clinicians is critical in helping the hospital run smoothly and efficiently as well as in providing outstanding clinical care.

2. Knowledge building:

You will be involved in, and contribute to, regular structured journal clubs and informal seminar-style sessions and presentations.

3. Contribution to the out-of-hours rota:

You will play an active role in helping care for hospitalised referral inpatients overnight, alongside our nursing team, with a time commitment of one week in four. This will cover patients from all referral disciplines. A senior clinician will always be available as backup, but you should be confident in dealing with routine aspects of inpatient care and planning.

Requirements:

  • Applicants should have a passion for increasing their veterinary knowledge through exposure to a varied referral caseload and patient care
  • You must be an MRCVS and be eligible to work in the UK
  • You must have a minimum of two years' primary care experience and preference will be given to candidates who have some experience working out-of-hours
  • You should have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and competent IT skills

The start date for this position is July/August 2024. Applicants must be able to participate in a four-week rolling rota: two weeks on clinics, one week on nights, one week off.

In return, you will receive:

  • 6.6 weeks' annual leave (including bank holidays) plus an extra day off for your birthday
  • In-house CT training will be provided
  • CPD allowance and in-house training
  • Generous staff discount scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • Salary: starting from £40,000-£55,000 (DOE)
