Vets deployed to Kathmandu to help animals and people left desolate
Emergency vets have been deployed to Kathmandu in Nepal after an earthquake left people and animals desolate, the World Veterinary Service has revealed. Vital medical supplies have also been sent to the country.
The charity's CEO Luke Gamble commented: "The Nepalese earthquake has had a devastating effect on the people and animals in the affected region. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.
"At times like this, the remit of WVS is to help champion animal welfare at every turn and pooling our resources with our associated charities in Kathmandu and surrounding areas is a must."
The death toll has now risen to more than 5,000 according to Nepal's National Emergency Operation Centre. The country's prime minister Sushil Koirala is reported to have said that this figure could reach 10,000.
WVS is calling for help with its response to the disaster. Mr Gamble added: "Any donations of time, money or medicines will be gratefully received and only with the generosity of fantastic supporters are we able to run projects like this to make a difference to the animals who have nowhere else to turn."
