Double gold for vet student Laura Muir

First major international title won at Belgrade

Glasgow veterinary student Laura Muir has won double gold at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade.

Muir triumphed in the 1500m, celebrating her first major international title, before winning the 3000m on the last day of the championships.

She broke the 32-year-old 1500m championship record and British record, completing it in 4:02.39. Her win in the 3000m saw her beat Turkey’s Yasemin Can - the reigning European champion for 5000m, 10,000m and cross country - by nearly eight seconds.

Her winning time of 8:35.67 also topped the championships record set in 1996.

Muir commented: “I never envisaged breaking the British record, it’s brilliant”.

Muir’s success follows a winter season during which she broke the European indoor records for 1000m and 3000m, as well as a number of domestic records.

IAAF Athletics president and compatriot Sebastian Coe, said: “She's in that purple patch of her career that athletes get into and it strikes me that she is stepping out onto the track thinking she is not going to be beaten.”

New form for online veterinary medicines retailers

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has produced a new online form for retailers wishing to sell veterinary medicines on the internet.

The form replace the previous Word version and is part of the VMD's ongoing commitment to digitise its processes. Anyone retailing prescription medicines online, including POM-V, POM-VPS and NFA-VPS categories, is lawfully required to register with the VMD before trading.

The change only applies to new applicants. Retailers already listed on the VMD's Register of Online Retailers or registered under the Accredited Internet Retailer Scheme (AIRS) do not need to do anything.
