Improve International launches digital CPD platform
(Caption here)
Veterinary Practice offers bitesize learning modules for vets and nurses.

Training provider Improve International has launched a digital CPD platform for veterinary surgeons and nurses, offering high-value, cost-effective education and resources.

The platform, named 'Veterinary Practice' has been created in response to feedback from professionals about the varying quality and accessibility of current CPD resources.

Subscribers to the platform will be able to access bitesize CPD modules, clinical-based learning, reflective learning and a tracker to help manage their CPD.

“As their working days become ever more pressured, it can be frustrating for veterinary professionals to have to hunt around for high-quality skills videos or track down case studies and other resources," commented Heber Alves, CEO of Improve International.

“Our mission is to offer vets and vet nurses high-quality veterinary education in the range of formats they need in order to develop their skills. With this in mind, we have created the Veterinary Practice Membership in order to bring together, in one place, a range of resources and educational services, all of which meet our exacting quality standards.”

Veterinary Practice is already available to Improve International Subscribers but will be officially launched at London Vet Show (11-12 November). The first 50 veterinary surgeons or nurses to sign up will receive one of Improve International's in-depth clinical manuals.

Professionals can earn CPD hours by reading, listening or engaging with the available resources in the platform. Improve International aims to extend its offering in 2022 to include an array of additional tools to support members with everyday practice.

“Veterinary Practice now offers a unique solution for busy veterinary professionals who want a one-stop-shop for resources and continuing professional development," said Helen Richmond, head of publishing and events at Improve International.

"During 2022 we will continue to build market-leading functionality, including new types of content, features and networking opportunities.’

BBC Radio 4 documentary addresses corporate fees

BBC Radio 4's File on 4 Investigates has released a documentary exploring how corporate-owned veterinary practices may be inflating bills to increase profit.

Released on 15 April, 'What's Happening To Your Vet Bills?' revealed the policies which many corporate groups have in place to increase their profits. This included targets and upgrades which veterinary teams are tasked with meeting on a regular basis.

It also features Anrich Vets, an independently-owned practice based in Wigan. Following the case of Staffordshire terrier Benjy, who is diagnosed with a tumour, the documentary shares how the team were able to offer contextualised care and advice to make the procedure as affordable as possible for his owners.

The documentary can be heard on demand on BBC iPlayer.
