BVNA Congress 2010
More details about what to expect at BVNA Congress 2010, held at Kettering Conference Centre in Northamptonshire between the 8th and 10th October, have been released.

According to the association, there will be specialist speakers, old & new at congress, delivering lectures on topics including general nursing, equine nursing, management & client communication, advanced nursing, exotics and current issues.

Friday will see the introduction of an additional lecture stream for VN educators and those wanting more advanced nursing subjects.  The VN Educator stream will be especially helpful for those who need additional CPD, and those who are new to teaching.  Friday also sees the commercial exhibition opening earlier, at 10am.

Speakers for the Management stream include Carol Grey, Clare Spencer, Sally Bowden & John Blackwell.  BVNA Legal/Employment Helpline representative Nicky Ackerley will be returning this year to speak about the differences between working as a full time employee and as a Locum Veterinary Nurse – particularly useful for those who are considering spending time working as a locum for the first time.

Julian Hoad will be coming back on the Saturday to deliver his extremely popular lectures to the student nurse delegates.  Joining him is James Farrell who will be talking about theatre nursing.  And as always, the Opening & Awards Ceremony will take place from 10.45am on Saturday. The opening speaker this year will be Jill Robinson, from this year’s chosen charity – the Animals Asia Foundation. For those still wanting to study after all this, Sunday will have more lectures on offer this year.

On the social front, there will be a quiz night on the Friday, which will be held at the Congress Hotel, the Kettering Park & Spa Hotel.  Numbers are limited, so book your tickets early.  There will also be the annual dinner dance at the Kettering Conference Centre and as always looks to be another roaring success.  The theme, chosen by President Donna Lewis, is ‘Christmas!’.  Again, book early, as tickets can sell out fast.

To view the full lecture programme and to download a registration form please visit the BVNA website or contact the BVNA office on 01279 408644.

NSA webinar explores sheep tailing and castration

The National Sheep Association (NSA) is to host a free webinar on the castration and tail docking of lambs.

The webinar, 'Understanding the tailing and castration consultation: A guide for sheep farmers', will be hosted online on Monday, 2 March 2026 at 7.30pm.

It comes during a government consultation into the methods used for these procedures. Farmers are encouraged to engage before the consultation period closes on Monday, 9 March 2026.

The webinar offers clear and actionable guidance to support farmers to contribute meaningfully to the consultation and prepare for potential changes.

On the panel will be former SVS president Kate Hovers, farmer and vet Ann Van Eetvelt and SRUC professor in Animal Health and Veterinary Sciences Cathy Dwyer. Each panel member will utilise their own specialism and expertise to evaluate risks and outcomes to sheep farming.

Find out more about the webinar on the NSA website.
