BSAVA and Birmingham Make Two Year Deal
Birmingham ICC
Birmingham's ICC signs two year contract with BSAVA Congress.

The British Small Animal Veterinary Association has signed a two-year extension deal with Birmingham International Convention Centre (ICC) which ensures their annual Congress is hosted there for the foreseeable future.

The two-year extension deal secures the location of the congress until at least 2015, including next year's international congress which is set to be the largest international veterinary event ever held in the UK.

BSAVA's congress attracts thousands of visitors each year and is one of the largest association events held at the ICC. This year's meeting pumped around £14.8 million into the economy.

The congress makes use of the 20 halls and meeting rooms at the venue, while the neighbouring NIA Birmingham hosts the biggest veterinary commercial exhibition in Europe.

The general manager of the BSAVA, Stephen Torrington, described the annual congress as having "expanded dramatically since we first came to the ICC, with more than 8000 visitors attending this year alone."

He said: "As the host association, next year's World Congress is of particular importance to the BSAVA, with more than 300 lectures set to be delivered to delegates from all parts of the world."

Catherine Newhall-Caiger, business development director at the ICC, said: "It's been fascinating to see the BSAVA Congress develop over the last 20 years to the major event that we know today."

RCVS annual renewal fee for vets due

RCVS' annual renewal fee for veterinary surgeons is now due. Vets must pay their renewal fee before Wednesday, 1 April 2026.

This year's standard annual fee has increased to 431 from last year's 418. This is an approximately three per cent increase, as approved by RCVS Council and the Privy Council.

Tshidi Gardner, RCVS treasurer, said: "The small fee increase will be used to help deliver both our everyday activities and our new ambitious Strategic Plan, which includes aims such as achieving new legislation, reviewing the Codes of Professional Conduct and supporting guidance, and continuing to support the professions through activities such as the Mind Matters Initiative, RCVS Academy and career development."

A full breakdown of the new fees is on the RCVS website. Information about tax relief is available on the UK government website.
