Audit and Risk Committee: Number One Priority
Following the publication of the McKelvey Report, Dr Jerry Davies, the President of the RCVS, has announced that the setting up of an Audit and Risk Committee to try and improve governance at the RCVS will be number one priority.
In a statement in response to the publication of the report, Dr Davies said: "The recommendation that an Audit and Risk Committee be set up will be prioritised, as this was highlighted as an imperative."
He commented: "The recommendations of the report are under consideration by a group of five past Presidents, together with Richard Davis and Judith Webb as lay members of Council, under the Chairmanship of Peter Jinman, and their proposal will be considered by Council in due course."
The statement follows a call from the British Veterinary Association for further detail on how the RCVS intends to respond to the recommendations, in a statement made by BVA President Carl Padgett at the end of November.
The full report has yet to be made public. The RCVS states: "The College is currently seeking further legal advice on whether it is proper for the report to be made available under the Freedom of Information Act."
