NI VN Awards seek nominations
BVNA & Hills looking for exceptional NI nurses.

The British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) and Hill's Pet Nutrition are calling for nominees for the 2012 Northern Ireland Veterinary Nursing Awards. The award, now in its fifth year, is intended to recognise those Veterinary Nurses who go above and beyond the call of duty and prove themselves a credit to the profession as a whole.

Northern Ireland Regional Co-ordinator of the BVNA Paula Quinn RVN MBVNA commented, “It’s so heartening to hear about these exceptional individuals, year after year. The quality of entries never diminishes and it is wonderful to be able to recognise the efforts of these unsung heroes in such a public way.”

Speaking on behalf of Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Susie Turner thanked everyone who took the time to complete a nomination, adding: “I rarely get through reading all the entries without developing a lump in my throat and feeling hugely proud to be associated with the veterinary nursing community.”

All veterinary nurses are dedicated to caring for animals but sometimes someone stands out above the rest by offering exceptional service. If you have an exceptional nurse, student nurse, or nursing assistant in your practice, why not nominate them for an award?

Nomination forms and promotional poster for your practice are available via the BVNA website. The winners will be announced at the Gala Banquet on 25th May 2012 during the BSAVA (NI) and BVNA (NI) Congress.

The National Sheep Association (NSA) is to host a free webinar on the castration and tail docking of lambs.

The webinar, 'Understanding the tailing and castration consultation: A guide for sheep farmers', will be hosted online on Monday, 2 March 2026 at 7.30pm.

It comes during a government consultation into the methods used for these procedures. Farmers are encouraged to engage before the consultation period closes on Monday, 9 March 2026.

On the panel will be former SVS president Kate Hovers, farmer and vet Ann Van Eetvelt and SRUC professor in Animal Health and Veterinary Sciences Cathy Dwyer. Each panel member will utilise their own specialism and expertise to evaluate risks and outcomes to sheep farming.
