The time for the annual Congress of the Veterinary Practice Management Association is nearly here, and the VPMA has joined forces with leading IT provider AT Veterinary Systems to launch a tailor-made app for those attending.

The app is free of charge and provides delegates with everything they need to know about the three day event. It is available for iPhone and iPad and there is also a web version accessible on a range of smartphones.

To download the app from the app store, click here, and the web application can be accessed here.

With a full list of exhibitors, a map of the venue and exhibition, a detailed timetable of the CPD lectures and a packed programme of social events, the VPMA Congress app will allow delegates to navigate the event, keep up to date with recent announcements and personalise their lecture timetable.

Simple to navigate and easy to sort - whether through date, theme, speaker or location - this app is an indispensable guide to the Congress, to be held from the 26th to the 28th January 2012. Taking place in the Chesford Grange Hotel, Kenilworth, VPMA Congress promises to build on last year's success and will feature two days of gold standard management CPD, an exhibition and a lively social programme.

BBC Radio 4 documentary addresses corporate fees

BBC Radio 4's File on 4 Investigates has released a documentary exploring how corporate-owned veterinary practices may be inflating bills to increase profit.

Released on 15 April, 'What's Happening To Your Vet Bills?' revealed the policies which many corporate groups have in place to increase their profits. This included targets and upgrades which veterinary teams are tasked with meeting on a regular basis.

It also features Anrich Vets, an independently-owned practice based in Wigan. Following the case of Staffordshire terrier Benjy, who is diagnosed with a tumour, the documentary shares how the team were able to offer contextualised care and advice to make the procedure as affordable as possible for his owners.

The documentary can be heard on demand on BBC iPlayer.
