Pre-purchase workshop to help equine vets
Changes, challenges and contentious issues to be covered

A clinical workshop has been organised to help vets better understand issues surrounding the equine pre-purchase examination (PPE).

The British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) has arranged the interactive workshop in light of recent changes, challenges and contentious issues surrounding the PPE.

Held at the Manchester Conference Centre on Wednesday December 12, the one-day workshop will be led by those involved in the implementation of certificate changes.

Topics covered at the event will include radiography and the PPE, insurance and the PPE, what's different about vetting the thoroughbred racehorse, what's different about vetting the high value competition horse and contentious issues of the PPE.

Dr Philip Batty, former doctor for Manchester City Football Club, will also speak about how the PPE of premiership footballers compares with those of top equine athletes - to add a more genial touch to the day.

VMD issues guidance on AVM-GSL packaging

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has shared advice on its requirements for medicines considered AVM-GSL.

The guidance explains the information that should be on the outer package, and sets out the typical maximum pack size for an AVM-GSL product. It also describes the user-friendly language, structure and phrases required on packaging and product leaflets.

AVM-GSL products do not require discussion between the purchaser and a veterinary professional. This means that clear product information is needed to support sales choices.

The information will be useful for submitting new products to the AVM-GSL category and lowering the distribution category of products from NFA-VPS to AVM-GSL.

The VMD's guidance can be accessed here.
